Hi!

Hurricane Carlotta entered Mazunte on Friday June 15 at about 4-5 o'clock in the afternoon after a completely unexpected course change. It got stronger than expected and arrived a day earlier, hitting San Augustinillo, Mazunte, Ventanilla instead of the prognosis saying it would hit Acapulco.

The hurricane with strength 3 (later on even up to 4) and wind speeds over 200km/h, waves of incredible force and height and rains left Mazunte and the district Santa Maria Tonameca with many desctroyed houses and a lot of people without a proper roof. The rainy season gets a new taste when you don't have a roof!

The people of Mazunte started clearing the streets the very next day, fallen trees were taken off the houses underneath and the community spirit of Mazunte showed itself at its best.

But still there are many things that cannot be done with pure good spirit and strong hands. Now that the main roads are free again materials for reconstruction are needed and this is the reason why I set up this blog.

I met up with the town council and it was decided to create a committee for redistributing funds that would come in through donations - TO THE PEOPLE THAT NEED THEM MOST.

The campaign is "Por una casa digna" meaning "for a dignified house".
So the beneficiaries will be people with little means to rebuild their abodes and if the goal of rebuilding Mazunte's homes should be reached the money will go to people in the area of Santa Maria Tonameca whose fruit plantations or other crop has been destroyed (insurance - believe it or not - only covers corn and beans!).

All this is still in process, many things have to be done, and internet is very slow, so please be patient with updates here.

But pass on the link to this site over facebook and all other platforms if you think that Mazunte deserves to be reerected!

Thanks a lot and much respect.
